Busan is a famous city in South Korea known for its beautiful seas and water sports, such as surfing and sailing, as well as its fresh seafood. The city is always busy with people from all over the country who come to enjoy their vacations throughout the year. Many surfers also love Busan for its optimal waves and suitable water temperatures, and local surfers at Songjeong Beach lead the surfing culture in South Korea.

If you’re new to Busan and want to experience surfing while traveling, I suggest starting your trip from Haeundae or Songjeong Beach, which are just a 30-minute bus ride away. Songjeong Beach, in particular, is an excellent spot for surfing with great waves, and I personally had a fantastic experience learning to surf there during a women’s Busan camp last spring. Within an hour of my lesson, I was able to ride the waves on a surfboard and had an unforgettable experience.

For female solo travelers planning a special weekend trip to Busan, I have the perfect 2-day itinerary to make the most of your trip.

Embrace the beauty of Haeundae Beach by walking the Galmaetgil Trail 2

If you’re heading to Busan from Seoul, the KTX train will get you there in just 2 hours and 30 minutes. For first-time visitors, I recommend starting your Busan adventure at Haeundae metro station, which is only a 50-minute ride from Busan Station. Haeundae is a great place to explore with plenty of local food and attractions to enjoy

Once you’ve checked into your accommodation near Haeundae, why not start your trip with a leisurely walk? Haeundae is home to the most beautiful trekking course in Busan, called Galmaetgil Trail 2. This path offers breathtaking views of the Busan sea and connects Haeundae, Mipo, and Songjeong. As you walk, you might even catch a glimpse of the beach train passing by. Facing the endless sea, you’ll be treated to stunning scenery that looks like something out of a movie.

The course is about 5 km and takes around 90 minutes to complete, starting from Haeundae and ending at Songjeong via Mipo.

Enjoying Freedom on the Waves While Surfing at Songjeong Beach

After taking a leisurely stroll to Songjeong Beach, it’s time to fully immerse yourself in the sea. Busan isn’t just a popular destination for travelers — it’s also a beloved spot for surfers. Thanks to its warm weather and consistent waves throughout the year, it offers perfect conditions for beginner and intermediate-level surfers to enjoy the water sport.

Songjeong Beach, in particular, is so renowned for surfing that it’s often called “Songjeongfornia” (a clever blend of Songjeong Beach and California). It’s where Korea’s first-generation surfers gathered and led the country’s surfing culture. Plus, being located close to downtown, it’s a spot where locals often come to enjoy surfing after work.

Surfing classes typically last for 2 hours and 30 minutes, with an hour dedicated to both theory and practical education, followed by 90 minutes of free surfing. During the class, you’ll learn not only about safety but also how to stand on the board and deal with the waves. After the theory class, you’ll get hands-on experience surfing with a professional surfer. Even if it’s your first time, you can experience riding the waves like a pro with the kind guidance of these surfing experts. Surfing in Busan is an experience that you simply can’t miss.

  • Tips for beginners to bring: a surfing board and suit (usually included in the surfing class), a swimsuit to wear inside the surfing suit, waterproof sunblock, a cap, toiletries, and a towel.

Don’t Miss the Grilled Clam and Sunset Attraction at Cheongsapo

After a long day of surfing, take a moment to rest and then head to Cheongsapo, the perfect spot to enjoy the sunset and delicious seafood. Cheongsapo Port is a small but charming harbor located beneath Moonlight Road. It’s a place where the warm and cold currents meet, making it an ideal location for fresh seafood restaurants. Among them, Suminine is a must-visit restaurant in Cheongsapo, offering delicious grilled clams with butter and cheese that are loved by both locals and tourists.

Why not have dinner with the new friends you made through the NomadHer Busan Surfing Camp? Share your stories with people from different parts of the world and witness the beautiful sunset while listening to the calming sound of the waves. It’s a romantic and charming side of Busan that you won’t want to miss.

Girls’ Night Out on Haeundae

If you’re looking to experience the vibrant nightlife in Busan’s Haeundae area, the Ibis Budget Ambassador Busan Haeundae Hotel is the perfect place to stay. This modern hotel is located just a one-minute walk from Haeundae Beach and a ten-minute walk from Haeundae Subway Station, offering convenient access to the best attractions in the area.

The hotel is a popular choice for young travelers seeking accessibility and affordability, with plenty of restaurants, cafes, and street performances nearby. Enjoy a fun night out with your friends in this lively area, filled with exciting energy and bustling activity. The Ibis Budget Ambassador Busan Haeundae Hotel is the perfect base for a memorable girls’ night out in Haeundae.

Waking Up with Sunrise Yoga Class at Haeundae Beach

Rise and shine! The next morning in Busan, it’s 6:30 am on Haeundae Street. This bustling nightlife district is now quiet, providing the perfect backdrop for a new day. Take advantage of this peaceful moment and join a sunrise yoga class on the beach to awaken your inner self. With the vast Haeundae Sea in front of you and the morning sun rising, you can focus solely on the sound of the waves crashing and the wind brushing against your skin.

It’s easy to get caught up in the daily grind and forget to take care of yourself. But don’t worry — this morning yoga class will help you refocus and connect with your inner senses. Join fellow travelers in a peaceful moment as you start your day with sunrise yoga on the beach at Haeundae.

This unique experience is available as part of the Women’s Busan Surfing Camp, running from April to the end of October this year. Download the NomadHer app and embark on a Busan adventure with locals and fellow female travelers, creating unforgettable memories along the way.
